Gold leaf Glass Signs & Art
How are They Made?
Traditional glass signs and made using a special technique called βreverse glass gildingβ (also known by the French term verre Γ©glomisΓ©). The design β often gold lettering or decoration β is painted on the back of a piece of glass, then sealed or framed so what you see from the front looks polished and βinsideβ the glass.
Traditional Gold Leaf Glass Signs & Art
This kind of signwriting was a popular choice for shops and businesses in the late 1800s and early 1900s β especially for legal offices, shops, or other businesses wanting to project a sense of quality and trust.
Today, you can commission custom glass signs for many purposes: a business storefront, a home, or even as a unique gift (they make great wedding gifts!). Depending on what youβre after, I can combine gold leaf with decorative touches like fancy lettering, enamel painting, textured glass, or other embellishments to create a striking, timeless effect.
In short: gold-leaf glass signs give you a classic, elegant, handcrafted look β theyβre more than just signs, theyβre decorative glass pieces that catch the eye and add a touch of luxury and individuality to a shop, an interior, or a home.
